If your child stutters then it can be quite upsetting. Not because there is anything wrong with your child, but simply because you can clearly recognise that stuttering is clearly a communication obstacle, and in many ways acts as a communication handicap to your child enjoying a full and active life. So, whilst stuttering in itself may not be a fatal disease, stuttering in children is clearly something that most parents would like to treat as quickly as possible in order to help their children as much as possible.

In very young children of under 6 years old, dealing with stuttering in children tends to focus on trying to get rid of the behaviour patterns that cause the stuttering (which are not always easy to spot), and getting the parents of the child actively involved with the prevention of those patterns. The thought is very much that if you prevent the behaviours that cause stuttering, then you can also prevent the stuttering itself.

One of the methods to help stuttering in children is to make a conscious effort with the child to slow down their speech patterns (and hence avoid tripping over words), and actively give praise where the child speaks fluently. This is very much a feedback mechanism approach to stuttering in children, and taps directly into the idea that being rewarded for good behaviour reinforces this behaviour, and naturally leads to a greater inclination to perform that way in the future.

Again, this is where the stuttering is not linked to some particular physical condition, but is instead linked to a mental construct about how the child sees words and communications, and trying to help them to change patterns of behaviour in order to improve their diction.

There are many great ways of supporting your child, and one of the best ways is to become much more informed about how to cure stuttering so that you can custom fit it to your child’s particular needs.

When exploring the nature of stuttering treatments and exactly what is available it can be somewhat bewildering to realise the large range of arguments that exist about speech impediments like stuttering, and the fierce debate that rages about stuttering therapy and which way stuttering treatments should be approached with regards to stuttering therapy.

The first thing that needs to be cleared up are the potential outcomes for any therapy that would be most desirable.

A consensus on this subject is still not easy to find, and whilst argument rages on, it seems clear that people who suffer from stuttering need to very much grasp their own salvation and try out various methods, because in a similar way that ‘experts’ arrive at decisions only after years of debate, and inscrutable evidence, none of that does stutterers any good who are looking to solve and cure their stuttering, and not get caught up in fancy debates about the whys or wherefores of it.

The pivotal points of stuttering treatments in general, and stuttering therapy in particular is to benchmark where the person who stutters is, so that when any treatment is undertaken, it is then clear to see whether or not any progress has been made.

This is a good way to proceed, because peoples speech impediments differ greatly from very mild to very severe, and everywhere in between, and so it is imperative to know where you stand in relation to yourself if you are to have any clearer idea if stuttering therapy or any other proposed stuttering cures were successful.

There are a couple of ways that this can be achieved.

Essentially, at its core what you are looking for is improved communication and satisfaction with overall progress. Both of which factors can be assessed by the participants themselves using surveys and simple feedback.

There are many ways that you can carry out stuttering therapy, and if you go the route of immediately enlisting the help of speech therapists, then that can certainly aid in your efforts. However, the cost could be prohibitive, as speech therapists are expensive.

A better approach is to first check out this Stuttering Therapy Treatment which can help you to achieve your stutter free goals, but at a fraction of the cost of professional speech therapy.

If you are looking to cure your stuttering then one great way that you can do it is through stuttering therapy.

What actually is Stuttering Therapy?

Well, stuttering therapy is one facet of speech therapy, which through speech exercises and ways of speaking aims to help people to overcome their speech impediment (in this case stuttering) .

Stuttering therapy is controversial because some people believe that there is no cure for stuttering. However, it is worth bearing in mind that a few hundred years ago most people didn’t believe that the Earth was round, or that the Earth revolved around the Sun; so quite how much validity you give to this point of view is up to you.

The fact remains that there are so many examples of people that suffered from speech impediments who subsequently overcame them, that it seems churlish to say that there are no methods by which someone can overcome their stuttering, when there are so many practical examples of people who have done exactly that.

The practical difficulties do still exist though, even if you accept the idea of stuttering therapy, and recognise that some people have overcome their stutter in the past.

The question still very much remains of how you can do it. In other words, is it repeatable?

Additionally, in recent years there has been considerable discussion about where the goal posts should be placed with stuttering therapy in terms of treatment outcomes.

Is it when a person can speak fluently like those who never suffered from a speech impediment?

Is it a certain amount of stuttering/stammering?

These are still very much live issues. The fact remains though that regardless of where you choose to put the goal posts, that the bottom line is that you can most likely improve your linguistic fluidity from where you currently are, and so it is certainly well-worth putting in the practice to make it happen.

Trying to stop stuttering is often a big priority for people who are afflicted with this speech impediment. The reason is very simple. Stuttering definitely can have an impact on the quality of your life, because effective communication is such an essential part of getting things done.

So it is no surprise that people actively want to stop stuttering in order to overcome this barrier.

It used to be the case that stuttering was thought of as something that not much could be done about, but more recent investigations into the causes of stuttering have shown that in actual fact a lot can be done for people who stutter.

The incidence for example of being able to help children is at over ¾ who can be helped by speech therapy inside of two years.

The only problem is that speech therapy is often extremely expensive, and two years of going to see a speech therapist at $100 a session may well put you into bankruptcy court before it cures you of your stuttering!

The easy way to stop stuttering is to think through what it is that a speech therapist would do if you hired them, and then attempt to replicate that process yourself. It may or may not be effective, but at least you can get immediate results if it works, and if it doesn’t work then you haven’t in practice stopped yourself from getting more dedicated help when you can afford the high fees.

And you will in any event be much more knowledgeable about the subject for having tried to solve it yourself.

At the end of the day, if the root cause is not physical, then it is only you who can solve the problem. Not any specialist, no matter how good. So it is in your best interests to see about solving this yourself, before spending out fortunes on speech therapists.

If you are looking for how to stop stuttering then you have come to the right place! The reality is that stuttering is a condition that many people face, and it can have devastating effects on job promotion and social factors. So it is clearly something that anyone would wish to find a stuttering cure for and learn how to stop stuttering quickly.

The good news is that whilst stuttering can have physical reasons as the main cause, that more commonly there are other factors in play that can be overcome quickly without the need for surgery or specialist equipment. Instead, from the comfort of their own home people can do often do some simple exercises and learn how to stop stuttering from the comfort of their own homes.

Sometimes to assist them in this process people will turn to speech therapists. And whilst not to in any way undermine the good work that speech therapists do, the fact is that that is an expensive option. Speech therapists will often charge up to $100 an hour, and so if you need to see them even a few times then it can very quickly add up to sizable sums of money.

And the reality is that most likely when you cut through to the real meat of what they get you to do it will consist of various vocal exercises that you have to repeat.

That’s ok, but wouldn’t you prefer not to have to pay out fortunes to learn how to stop stuttering?

Wouldn’t you prefer to get the information you need first and try it out yourself? In that way you can try out various exercises and regimes that are designed specifically to cure your stuttering and teach you how to stop stuttering, but at the same time allow you to try out what the speech therapists would have suggested anyway, only without all the high costs.

There are many different speech impediments that people can suffer from, and one of those is stammering. There are different ways of thinking about stammering depending on who you happen to be. If you read many of the different websites associated with stammering it would be incredibly easy to feel sorry for yourself, and reach the conclusion that because there isn’t some magic pill that you can take to suddenly cure your stammering that there isn’t much you can do about it.

Nothing could be further from the truth. The plain fact of the matter is that if you have a speech impediment like stammering, that it will depend on what the root causes of it are as to the steps that you take to get rid of it.

For some people there is undoubtedly a physical causes such as the way that their palette is structured, or a particular bone configuration in their mouth or nose. For these people it may well be that a surgical intervention is needed to correct the problem.

However, for the vast bulk of people stammering or other speech impediment is not generally caused by a physical reason. It is often either a mental problem, or a problem that can be helped through exercises such as a physical therapist might use, or that equally you can find yourself in may places online such as this one.

If you want to take some inspiration that a speech impediment need not hold you back, then consider the example of Winston Churchill. He went on to become one of the world’s most famous orators, and is well known for the rousing speeches that he made during World War 2. But what is less well known is that Churchill suffered from a speech impediment in his early years, and actually practiced speech exercises in order to overcome it.

If it was good enough for Churchill… Click here to see some speech exercises to overcome your stammering/stuttering WITHOUT having to pay for an expensive speech therapist!

That is true enough, there is no magical pill that will magically transform you from someone that stammers into someone that does not. But does that mean that there isn’t a stammering cure that will work for you?

Not at all.

Look at the case of Bruce Willis. He very much took the maxim of “speak softly, but still carry a big stick” to heart, because whilst he says he ‘grew out of it’ the reality from his own lips is that wasn’t what happened.

‘Growing out of it’ is incredibly passive, and would involve sitting on your behind and doing nothing about your stammering. Not actively looking for a stammering cure!

In reality what actually happened was in the second part of his statement. Namely that he got given some exercises to work on for a very brief period of time, and then it went.

Think about that for a moment.

He had suffered from stammering for the first 20 years of his life. It had probably made his life uncomfortable at times, and yet the breakthrough came NOT because he grew out of his stutter, but because he took positive action to find a stammering cure for himself that actually worked.

None of this process was magic or luck. In practice he made his own luck by grasping the nettle of what he needed to do to make it happen, and took some advice that led him to first go to a speech therapist, and secondly to do the exercises that the speech therapist gave him.

In reality it was the exercises that acted as a stammering cure for Bruce Willis.

The good news is that these kind of exercises are now easily available, and you don’t have to be Bruce Willis to do them!

Check them out here >>

Stammering is certainly NOT the end of the world. Throughout history there have been some very famous people who stuttered, and many of them were actors and entertainers who were forced to use their voices on a daily basis, so this is not something that you should be desperately shy about, or go into your shell about. It is something that can be controlled and that can be dealt with when looking for a stammering cure.

Some of the famous actors who have had a stutter include Bruce Willis and Julia Roberts. Two of the biggest stars to ever grace Hollywood, and yet they have managed to overcome this and forged amazingly successful careers.

The reason that you don’t hear about this is because they managed to overcome their stutters and found a stammering cure that worked for them. In Bruce Willis’s case for example he had a childhood stutter for the first twenty years of his life. Not something you would expect from ‘The Last Action Hero’, but nevertheless true.

He actually gave an interview to Maxim Magazine in the UK, where he is quoted as saying:

“”I was one of the people who grew out of it. Everybody has some kind of vocal flaw. It’s what makes us unique. I was lucky enough in college to work with a speech therapist for a very brief amount of time, and he gave me some exercises to work on.

“The key to it was the fact that when I got onstage and when I was an actor,I didn’t stutter. That was a miracle in itself.”

Think about that for a moment.

Was it really a ‘miracle’? Should you sit on your hands and wait for divine inspiration?

I think not.

If you are to believe many of the stammering associations you could easily believe that there isn’t much you can do, because there isn’t some magical pill that you can take that will cure you of your stuttering.
