There are many different speech impediments that people can suffer from, and one of those is stammering. There are different ways of thinking about stammering depending on who you happen to be. If you read many of the different websites associated with stammering it would be incredibly easy to feel sorry for yourself, and reach the conclusion that because there isn’t some magic pill that you can take to suddenly cure your stammering that there isn’t much you can do about it.
Nothing could be further from the truth. The plain fact of the matter is that if you have a speech impediment like stammering, that it will depend on what the root causes of it are as to the steps that you take to get rid of it.
For some people there is undoubtedly a physical causes such as the way that their palette is structured, or a particular bone configuration in their mouth or nose. For these people it may well be that a surgical intervention is needed to correct the problem.
However, for the vast bulk of people stammering or other speech impediment is not generally caused by a physical reason. It is often either a mental problem, or a problem that can be helped through exercises such as a physical therapist might use, or that equally you can find yourself in may places online such as this one.
If you want to take some inspiration that a speech impediment need not hold you back, then consider the example of Winston Churchill. He went on to become one of the world’s most famous orators, and is well known for the rousing speeches that he made during World War 2. But what is less well known is that Churchill suffered from a speech impediment in his early years, and actually practiced speech exercises in order to overcome it.
